NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 26 – John Kipchumba Tanui has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA).

Tanui takes over from Catherine Adeya-Weya who exited the authority at the end of January after her tenure ended.

He joins the team from Huawei Technology where he served as Deputy Country CEO/ vice president delivery services.

Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i says Tanui brings a wealth of professional experience having worked for many organizations as an engineer, project manager and product manager.

Matiang’i says his appointment will go a long way in helping to finalise the remaining work at Konza city within the set deadlines.

“I wish to congratulate Tanui on his appointment. I have no doubt that he has the capacity and will to steer this project forward,” he said.

Konza City is considered an integral part of Vision 2030 as it seeks to leverage and expand technology and other knowledge-based sectors, as well as contribute at least Sh10 billion to Gross Domestic Product.

“There are numerous opportunities that will come from this project. We have estimated that more than 16,000 jobs will be created here in the next five to six years,” Matiang’i added.

Also joining the team is Patrick Adolwa who will oversee the development of the Konza Technology City and Annah Musyimi who is the new project manager.

The technopolis is expected to host various amenities including research centres, a university complex, offices, commercial and residential houses and parks.

It is also expected to host foreign and local business outsourcing companies, a science park, a convention centre, and shopping malls among others.
