LAIKIPIA, Kenya, Nov 20 – Laikipia County government has embarked on a census of all businesses in the region.
County Executive for Finance Murungi Ndai said that the exercise that commenced on Monday is meant to help the county establish an up-to-date database of all types of businesses which will be critical for planning and policy formulation.
The exercise will be conducted by a team of 90 newly recruited interns who are expected to traverse the county collecting data and interview traders on issues relating to their trade.
Ndai said the exercise will help in formulating business-friendly laws and other policies such as the issuance of enterprise loans.
“We need to go to evidence-based policy-making by having accurate statistics that will help the county establish where there are opportunities that might attract investors,” said Ndai.
Ten days will be spent collecting the data on the businesses while another 10 would be spent in data analysis.
